Have you experienced essential oils in spa treatments or bath and body care products? These uses are only part of the remarkable essential oils story.

Essential oil is the “lifeblood” of a plant.  You can think of essential oil as a plant’s immune system because the oil is essential to the plant’s survival.  It protects the plant from disease, providing oxygen, nutrients, etc, which help it to fight off anything it doesn’t want.  It keeps the plant healthy and functioning optimally!  Essential oils are also responsible for a plant’s distinctive fragrance, its essence.  Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their cosmetic, spiritual and emotionally uplifting properties. For over twenty years, Young Living has been at the forefront of bringing this ancient tradition to modern users.  Young Living’s therapeutic grade essential oils have helped millions of people all over the world support their wellness, both physically and emotionally.

Essential oils are not only primarily extracted through careful steam distillation, but also through cold pressing. Any time you hold a bottle of a powerful essential oil, you are holding the pure essence of botanicals that can be diffused, inhaled, applied topically, and incorporated into massage.

Hands down the biggest benefit using these oils has been for me is how aware they made me to the type of products I had been using in my hair, body, soap and cleaning supplies, etc. So many harmful ingredients in these products. We are literally surrounded by them and even worse applying them directly to our skin daily. Yikes!

My goal was to slowly replace all of the products I was currently using with plant-based, 100% safe alternatives. After doing some research, essential oils proved to be the way to go.

Essential oils have become one of my must-haves for optimal health, and as a health coach, naturally I get asked a lot why I chose Young Living instead of the other 3465379 brands out there.

Well I’m here to fill you in!

There are a few reasons I only purchase my essential oils from Young Living, but the biggest reason is because there are hardly ANY regulations on essential oils. Not many at all. Unlike food, you cannot rely on labels to tell you what is inside.

For example, companies are allowed to claim a bottle of oil contains 100% pure essential oil (say, frankincense) but it only ACTUALLY has to contain 5% of said oil. Therefore, the other 95% could be chemical extenders, artificial fragrances, fillers, etc. But the bottle will say 100% pure. When I discovered this I couldn’t believe it. I looked through my current stash of oils I had at home, and after doing some research threw those in the trash- they weren’t actually doing anything for me at all. (Except helping me diffuse and topically apply synthetic substances on my body…)

So if there aren’t any regulations placed on any companies… why Young Living?

Young Living has what is called their ‘Seed to Seal’ promise. They own their own farms and distilleries (no other essential oil company in the world does) so from the time they plant seeds on their own farms (which they only use essential oils on for pest control, no pesticides or anything unnatural) to the time they seal the bottles I purchase, they are fully in control of the process. So, the most quality control any brand can offer. In a market full of essential oils where you can’t necessarily trust their labels, I find a lot of comfort spending my money on a company that is totally transparent about their process.

I recently went to the YL’s Growing Wellness event in Edmonton where I had the pleasure of spending the evening listening to their Chief Sales and Science Officers, Director of Global Education and Training, Head Argronomist of Global Farms and their Country Manager. I learned so much about their values and their promise to use natural and sustainable practices for the distillation of essential oils.

As a bonus- I learned each oil is tested approximately 45 times before bottling and blending, and 45 times after before they are approved for home use. I can promise you no other oil company is that committed to our health! I also learned oils not good enough for YL are disposed of and not sold to any other companies!

The other main reason is because Young Living’s oils are 100% therapeutic grade.

Again, you may see this on labels – but there are no regulations on this claim either.

YL distills each and everyone one of its oils to ensure they reach their highest potential. Some distillations are fairly short, and others take much longer (just like beer). Less expensive oils, for example the ones you see at health food stores or on Amazon, will generally just distill all of their oils for the same amount of time, across the board. Meaning they will only be fragrance grade, and devoid of all of the powerful benefits that therapeutic grade oils contain.

If you want to truly have the transformative experience that I’ve had with oils, and to really experience the true power of plants, you have got to get the good stuff. You definitely get what you pay for! Want to take the plunge? Join me and grab your starter kit here.
