How to find your inner confidence

Hi gorgeous! How confident are you feeling today? 

Confidence is crucial to you achieving success. Without it, despite your strengths or talents, you won’t reach your full potential. I know many people who are held hostage by fear, and as a result never start the business they’ve been wanting to for years, the blog they’ve been writing inside their head, or even the running program that would benefit them once they get started. This fear stems from a lack of confidence, but the good news is you can change that. Before I sold real estate, I was terrified of making calls and pitching myself as the best person to sell someone’s home. I started in real estate when I was 19, but my inner dialogue was telling me because I had never owned a house I wasn’t the best option for a homeowner. That was bullshit!

After I applied these confidence tips below to my own life I realized I had more passion than the agents who had been in the business for years. I was a driven, excited realtor who would work harder than anyone to sell houses and make my clients happy. I was 20 years young and making good 6 figures. Confidence is key!

*Watch your self-talk.

  • One of my favourite lessons I learned from the book Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz was that you will act like the person you conceive yourself to be. Essentially whomever I imagine myself to be, I will be. Your brain will not make a liar out of you. Fill your self-talk with positive thoughts. These will encourage you to move forward while negative thoughts will keep you stuck. Imagine if every time Tiger Woods went to strike the ball he told himself “I’m off my game, I’ll never get near my target.” How do you think he would have done? Keep positive thoughts in mind, imagine yourself at your goal already and you’ll find yourself taking chances you never thought you could- trust me you can!

*Cut out the social comparison.

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” —Theodore Roosevelt

Comparisons put focus on the wrong person. Why waste time and energy focusing on anyone but yourself? They are merely an excuse to keep you right where you are. Social comparisons are also always unfair. We tend to compare the worst we feel about ourselves to the best we presume about others. If your mind starts to compare, ask yourself “Will these thoughts help me get closer to my goals or further away from them?” You are a unique individual whose strengths and talents and can never be properly compared to anyone else.

*Throw out the idea of being perfect.

How often have you procrastinated pursing something because you felt you weren’t ready yet? Whatever it is, a new business, lifestyle blog, or health program, don’t delay! Perfection isn’t real. We learn from every “failure” we think we made. Each time I didn’t get a listing, I asked myself why. What I learned from those experiences was fuel for my next pitch- and you better believe I got a lot of listings! If you don’t think you can achieve perfection, go for good instead.

One of my favourite authors, Gretchen Rubin, described it this way:

Instead of pushing yourself to an impossible ‘perfect,’ and therefore getting nowhere, accept ‘good.’ Many things worth doing are worth doing badly.”
